The Spice Bazaar (also known as the Egyptian Bazaar), one of Istanbul's oldest covered markets, was commissioned by Hatice Turhan Sultan and built by Architect Kazım Ağa in 1660. It was originally named the "Egyptian Bazaar" because it was financed by taxes and caravans arriving from Egypt, which at the time was an Ottoman province. For centuries, it served as the city's primary pharmacy and spice warehouse.
Today, this monumental structure houses 86 shops and six entrance gates, inviting visitors into a labyrinth where every corner offers a unique aroma and a piece of history.
