Golden Streets of the
Grand Bazaar

The world’s oldest and largest shopping mall; 61 streets, 4000 shops, and thousands of stories waiting to be told...

"The foundations laid by Mehmed the Conqueror in 1461 have evolved into the most vibrant labyrinth of global trade and the Istanbul spirit."

Considered the heart of Istanbul, the Grand Bazaar (Kapalıçarşı) welcomes nearly half a million visitors daily with a rhythm that has remained unchanged for centuries. This massive structure, born from the blending of core Byzantine structures with Ottoman architecture, is not just a marketplace; it is a giant city within itself, with its inns (hans), covered markets (bedestens), mosques, and fountains.

The Inner Bedesten (Cevahir Bedesteni), the heart of the bazaar, is where the most valuable antiques and jewelry are found. The Sandal Bedesten, on the other hand, takes its name from a type of valuable fabric once sold here.

Hidden Treasures: The Hans of the Grand Bazaar

Gates branching off from the main arteries of the bazaar lead you to quiet, peaceful hans that smell of traditional craftsmanship. These hans preserve the true soul of the Grand Bazaar:

Zincirli Han

With its pink facade and century-old tree in the center, it is the most photogenic spot in the bazaar. Today, it houses master jewelry workshops.

Çuhacı Han

Dating back to the 18th century, this inn is currently one of the hubs for precious stone and metal trading.

Kalcılar Han

An authentic stop where the pulse of silver craftsmanship beats, and the echoes of artisans' hammers still ring out.
