YOROS
FORTRESS

On that rugged hill where the Marmara meets the Black Sea, a massive Byzantine shadow that has watched over the waves for millennia.

Guardian of Two Seas

Yoros Fortress was built during the Eastern Roman Empire atop the hill of Anadolu Kavağı to control the entrance to the Black Sea. Although frequently referred to as the "Genoese Castle," its original architects were the Byzantines. The Genoese captured the fortress in the 14th century and utilized it for their commercial interests for decades.

With its massive bastions and Greek inscriptions, the fortress is one of Istanbul's most mysterious sites. Falling under Ottoman rule in the 15th century, the structure today serves both as a historical treasure and the best vantage point to witness the wild waters of the Black Sea.
