HAYDARPAŞA
The last station where the rails meet the sea.
The Soul of
The Tracks
Opened in 1908, Haydarpaşa Station is more than just a building; it was the starting point of the Baghdad Railway and the first sight of Istanbul for those arriving from Anatolia. Designed by German architects Otto Ritter and Helmut Cuno, it remains one of the finest examples of neoclassical German architecture in the world.
Archaeological Surprise
During restoration works that began in 2018, ruins of the ancient city of Khalkedon (Kadikoy) dating back to the Early Byzantine period were discovered beneath the platforms, turning the station into a living open-air museum.
